- This is the national professional organization above SHESS. It was
founded in 1974 in Los Angeles, California by a group of engineers
including one female. They developed this organization to have
representation of the Latino society in the engineering disciplines,
which later grew and promoted the math and sciences as
well. SHESS was the first student chapter founded by SHPE in
1975 and now it has expanded to over 190 student chapters around
the nation and Puerto Rico.
